FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FEBRUARY 6, 2012
The Southeast Conference of the National Premier Soccer League is pleased to officially announce the 2012 season schedule along with some exciting changes.
“Our very competitive conference has even more to offer to soccer fans in the upcoming season: more teams, a new format and a conference championship match,” said Andy Zorovich, NPSL Chairman of the Board. “Last year four teams took turns holding first place in the conference during the season, with the champions emerging only after the very last game. We feel that a championship match will add to that excitement.”
The growing NPSL Southeast Conference kicks off the 2012 regular season on May 5.
There are now 8 teams in the conference, up from 6 in 2011, with newest clubs being Myrtle Beach FC and Mississippi Storm. The Southeast Conference will also be divided into two groups: East and West, each made up of 4 teams. Within each group, the four teams will play each other twice, once at home and once away. They will also play each team from the other group, but only once, making 10 regular season games for each team.
At the end of regular season play, the winner of each group will meet in the Southeast Conference Championship game on July 14. The winner will go on to represent the South Region in the NPSL National Championships on July 26th in San Diego, CA.
The Southeast Conference is home to the reigning 2011 NPSL National Champions, Jacksonville United FC.
